There are a range of factors that might make your account more attractive to those looking to copy trade. Some of these factors might become more or less popular depending on social trends but it is important to note that, performance never goes out of fashion.
Any account holder looking to invest in a signal provider will be faced with a long list of potential candidates. The most likely ranking tool will be performance. And it’s not sufficient to post a few weeks good performance but have massive draw-downs the rest of the time. This is because the reputable sites (Ayondo, FXTM, eToro, etc.) ensure there is transparent reporting and potential investors will have access to your long-term track record.
Before you rush off and design a trading strategy, there are also some other requirements you’ll need to meet. ZuluTrade runs a fairly ‘open door’ policy in terms of traders, they don’t vet or sanction those looking to be copied; but even they have guidelines that are detailed at (https://www.zulutrade.co.uk/trader-guide) and paraphrased include:
Less than 30% drawdown
Minimum track record of 12 weeks
Profit per trade > 3 pips
In terms of interfaces, you’ll want to use a system (maybe MT4) that can link with a variety of platforms, or at least do what you have to do to ensure your strategy can be hosted by a range of platforms.
Other tips revolve around making your account attractive to potential investors/signal buyers:
Invest your own money – people love the idea of you having skin in the game. You’re going to have a very good story to sell if you are trading out of a Demo account.
Demonstrate long term successful trading.
Take up the opportunity to engage with the trading community. A lot of the top-end platforms offer opportunities for traders and followers to share ideas.
Consider the filter settings on the big sites. At ZuluTrade for example it’s possible to filter by ‘does the trader provide a ‘strategy description video’?
So there are lots of ways to catch the eye, but performance is what will seal the deal.
