Judging by the price of Bitcoin at the moment, the act has not affected it upwards or downwards. The Dutch police have shown its competence in revealing internet/cryptocurrency frauds by arresting Barry van Mourik, a man who allegedly conned investors in a fake bitcoin (BTC) mining operation out of €100 million ($111 million). The news was reported by the Dutch daily news outlet De Gelderlander on May 21st.

Barry van Mourik, who ran another cryptocurrency company which is under suspicion, allegedly deceived clients into thinking they would earn great returns from bitcoin mining, while no mining was happening at all, making it a Ponzi scheme.

Posing as the operator of a mining farm, Barry van Mourik offered hefty profits from fictive mining. This “inspired” investors to purchase non-existent mining equipment. Instead of buying the equipment, he allegedly spent the money on luxury items of his liking.
