Salesforce.com Inc. (NYSE:CRM) said yesterday that it agreed to purchase data firm Tableau Software Inc. (NYSE:DATA) for $15.3 billion.
“The deal is transformative for the software industry, the most dramatic move yet by a cloud major to boost its analytics offerings,” Wedbush Securities analyst Steve Koenig said.
Tableau offers software solutions focused on data analysis to more than 86,000 customers globally. Its stock closed 33.41% higher on Monday following the deal announcement, while shares of Salesforce slid more than 5%.
