Uber (NYSE:UBER) starts testing drones to deliver food, says it will cut conveyance time

  • The company won the US Federal Aviation Administration bid last year to test the aerial deliveries in San Diego.
  • Uber plans to utilise the result of the tests for its aerial ridesharing network.

Uber’s food delivery unit, Uber Eats has started testing its drone delivery capability in association with McDonald’s in San Diego. If successful, the company plans to extend the service to other restaurants as well. In future, the company plans to land the drones on parked vehicles near delivery centres, and then use the vehicles for the last mile of delivery.
