  1. Hi, thanks for the question!

The 3-day rule when trading in stocks is a requirement put in place by the U.S. Securities and Trade Commission (SEC), which ensures that all trades and transactions must be settled in no longer than a 3-day limit. Any sale or purchase, transfer of funds must be planned accordingly to this, in order to avoid inconveniences.

  2. Hi Zeynep,

The Stellar network refers to a blockchain-powered distributed ledger network that serves to connect banks, payments systems and people to offer cheap, cross-asset value transfers and payments.

Stellar’s native digital currency is named Lumens, known by its symbol XLM. Stellar refers to the blockchain network, lumen is the digital currency and XLM is its ticker symbol.

  3. Hi Philip,

Shares of Ryanair (LSE: RYA) have been declining recently as markets reacted to the terrible quarterly numbers report from the airline and the government’s decision to reiterate a 14-day quarantine on travellers travelling back from Spain.

Last week, the low-cost airline reported a first-quarter Q1 loss of €185m. The company reported the €243m net profit for the same period last year, providing us with a clear picture of hard the coronavirus has pummelled the FTSE 250 stock and its peers. Ryanair said that the three months through June have been “the most challenging” in its 35-year history.

After the introduction of lockdowns and travel bans, the number of Ryanair passengers between mid-March and the end of June plummeted 500,000, compared to 41.9 million from last year. While the airline managed to cut costs by 85% over the period, it wasn’t enough to compensate for the 95% decline in revenue to €125m.

  4. Hi Trevor, thanks for asking the question.

Tesla (TSLA) stock has rocketed by around 500% over the past year and is on a good path to become one of the most valuable components of the S&P 500.

Tesla posted a much higher-than-expected earnings report, exceeding most analysts' estimates by far. To be more specific, the automaker managed to surpass consensus EPS estimates by nearly 7,000%, reporting $2.18 in EPS compared to the consensus three-cent estimate.

As for its future prospects, Tesla shares are likely to consolidate, with a potential pullback to the $1,000-$1,200 level, but the stock should ultimately surge sharply thanks to the company’s expanding revenues and earnings capabilities.

  5. Hey,

The EUR/USD pair is continuing its upward trajectory as investors respond to the strong services PMIs and thanks to increasing retail sales in the Eurozone. EUR/USD is currently hovering around 1.1852, somewhat lower than the July high of 1.1905.

Traders will closely monitor the pair’s reaction to the non-manufacturing PMI data from the United States. Some analysts predict that the PMI will slightly diminish from the previous 57.1 to 55.0. Investors are also expecting the pair’s reaction to the ADP nonfarm private payroll numbers.

As for its future outlook, analysts have contradictory feelings about the EUR/USD. Analysts at Danske Bank estimated that the pair will decline to 1.1200 over the next few months, while the median Bloomberg one-month estimation by analysts is 1.1570, still lower than its current value.

Looking at the daily chart, we can see that the pair has been in a strong upward trajectory. Its price is currently above the short and medium-term moving averages but the RSI is still in the overbought level. Thus, it looks like EUR/USD will keep rising, particularly if it breaks above the last month’s high of 1.1904.

  6. Hi Mary,

A trading plan that utilizes Bollinger Bands for trading CFDs should monitor price that moves along the border for trend confirmation, and keep an eye on a crossing from one side to the other to indicate a price reversal.

Sometimes the price will swing across before reverting back in several more bars - this is known as a ‘head fake’. To protect yourself from overreacting and risking getting a margin call on your trades, make sure you’re also monitoring other indicators and see if they’re supporting the price movements. Reliable indicators to confirm trends are the Relative Strength Index (RSI) and the Moving Average Convergence/Divergence (MACD) because these are momentum indicators and thus are complementary to the Bollinger Bands which are based solely on the price levels.

  7. Hey James,

Shares of AMC Entertainment (NYSE: AMC) climbed on Tuesday in spite of the absence of news about the theatre chain.

Meanwhile, AMC struck a new deal with Universal Pictures, which will essentially cut the exclusivity of all motion pictures made by Universal Pictures and Focus Features from 75 days in theatres to only 17 days.

This means that the audience will now have to wait only 17 days before new movies become available on PVOD platforms like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime etc. The deal, however, will likely hurt cinemas revenues.

AMC’s rival and the second-largest theatre chain in the world, Cineworld, dropped 4% following the news about the deal. The stock is now prone to hit March lows once again.

  8. Hi Trevor,

Shares of Limited Brands Inc (NYSE: LB) soared over 20% in after-hours trading following the company’s announcement to cut 850 jobs. The stock has climbed to $23 per share, a new 5-month high.

The mother company of Victoria’s Secret and Bath & Body Work said it will cut 850 jobs at its home office at Columbus, Ohio.

The move comes as a part of the cost-cutting campaign to ease the blow from the coronavirus pandemic. L Brands hopes to retain $400 million annually, $175 million of which will be achieved in this fiscal year.

“Decisions relating to our workforce are incredibly difficult and not taken lightly, but these actions are necessary to best position our company for the long-term. On behalf of the Board and management team, I’d like to extend our deepest appreciation to the impacted associates for their contributions and dedication over the years,” Andrew Meslow, CEO of Limited Brands.
