After passing the bill, Montana is definitely more accepting towards cryptocurrencies. The state of Montana has gone more crypto friendly by passing the new bill addressing the use of utility tokens, and the way that the state sees crypto as securities. The bill is recognizing utility tokens and exempting them from being considered as securities under local rules, but some caveats are present in order to prevent abusing the system.

The bill was sponsored by State Representative Shane Morigeau (Democrat). The bill sets out that the utility token transactions are permissible as long as the purpose of the token is “primarily consumptive.” The token creator/issuer must not market the token as an investment or for speculation.
