Intertek Group plc (ITRK.L), a total quality assurance provider, announced the acquisition of Envirolab, a leading environmental testing and analysis firm based in Australia.
The move, announced Monday, positions Intertek to capitalize on the growing environmental testing market in the Asia Pacific region.
Envirolab's testing services encompass soil, water, air, materials, and various chemical and biological substances, including PFAS and emerging contaminants.
The company serves a diverse client base across critical sectors like government, industrials, infrastructure, natural resources, energy, and construction.
In the financial year ending June 2025, Envirolab generated revenues of £28 million, employing over 200 skilled professionals across five laboratories in Australia and New Zealand.
According to Intertek, Envirolab has established itself as a quality leader in the Australian environmental testing market, demonstrating consistent double-digit revenue growth, strong margins, and robust cash generation over the past three years.
Investments in state-of-the-art facilities, including a new 46,000+ square foot laboratory in Perth, Western Australia, are said to underscore its commitment to innovation and service excellence.
The global environmental testing market is currently valued at approximately US$20 billion and is projected to grow at a CAGR of 6.6% between 2025 and 2033.
The Asia Pacific region, representing approximately 15% of the global market, is expected to be the fastest-growing, with a projected CAGR of 7.4%.
The acquisition is expected to create significant commercial synergies. Intertek's existing presence in Assurance, Mining, Energy, and Infrastructure in Australia will provide new client acquisition opportunities for Envirolab's environmental testing services.
Conversely, Intertek's ATIC (Assurance, Testing, Inspection and Certification) solutions will strengthen relationships with Envirolab's current client base.
André Lacroix, Intertek's CEO, stated, “Envirolab will provide Intertek with a high-quality environmental laboratory business in Australia, underpinned by deep technical expertise and a proven track record of growth and profitability.”
