Dr. Martens (LON: DOCS) is expanding its global footprint through strategic distribution partnerships in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Latin America.
The move signals the iconic British footwear brand's commitment to reaching new consumers via a capital-light expansion model.
The company has entered into a distribution agreement with Beside Group in the UAE, marking Dr. Martens' initial entry into that market.
Beside Group, an experienced partner for international brands in the Middle East, will initially focus on wholesale distribution, with plans for mono-branded store openings in the future.
Simultaneously, Dr. Martens has partnered with Crosby in Latin America, which recently opened a store in Santiago, Chile, adding to their existing presence in Argentina, which opened in August.
The partnerships are said to align with Dr. Martens' strategic objective of curating market-right distribution channels and entering new growth markets while minimizing capital expenditure.
Crosby, known for its work with international fashion and luxury brands, will serve as the official distributor in Mexico, Argentina, Paraguay, and Chile, managing both mono-branded retail stores and wholesale operations.
The first Dr. Martens store in Latin America opened in Buenos Aires in August, followed by the recent Santiago opening.
The company's expansion strategy comes at a time when global retail is facing mixed signals. While some markets show resilience, others are experiencing headwinds due to inflation and changing consumer preferences.
Dr. Martens' focus on capital-light models is expected to potentially mitigate some of the risks associated with large-scale investments in uncertain economic conditions.
Ije Nwokorie, CEO of Dr. Martens, stated: “These exciting partnerships are consistent with our strategy of entering new growth markets to reach more consumers than ever before through a capital-light approach. We see enormous potential for Dr. Martens in the UAE and Latin America and are delighted to have two partners who really understand both the depth and breadth of our iconic brand.”
