Micron Technology’s stock (NASDAQ: MU) is trading at $226.28 ahead of earnings, 2.7% lower on the day. The stock had previously found willing support around $226 during a pullback in early December, yet much of the attention has been on resistance levels, such has been the ascent at Micron this year.

Since the start of 2025, Micron’s stock price has added an impressive 159%, significantly outperforming broader markets, aswell as more esteemed tech names that grab the limelight. Today is Micron’s day to take center stage, with all eyes on earnings, after the closing bell.

Analysts are expecting Micron to deliver an EPS of $3.94 on the quarter, coming on revenue of $12.88 billion. This would represent a Y/Y sales growth of 47.92%, and a more than double on the EPS of $1.79 this time last year.

Micron is aggressively expanding its manufacturing footprint to meet the burgeoning demand for memory chips. In June, the company announced an expansion of its U.S. investments to approximately $200 billion, including $150 billion for manufacturing. This includes building a second advanced memory chip fabrication facility in Boise, Idaho, and enhancing its existing plant in Manassas, Virginia. The goal is to produce 40% of its DRAM chips domestically and develop advanced packaging techniques critical for HBM.

Furthermore, earlier this month, Micron announced plans to invest $9.6 billion (1.5 trillion yen) to construct a new HBM manufacturing facility at its Hiroshima site in Japan. Construction is slated to begin in May 2026, with production anticipated by 2028. The Japanese government is likely to support the project with up to 500 billion yen in subsidies.

However, investors have also reacted to concerns about increased capital spending. Micron’s stock fell by 1% last month after CFO Mark Murphy indicated that the company’s current capital spending run rate of $18 billion would face “pressure” due to market tightness expected to extend beyond 2026 and multi-year customer agreements.

On a technological front, Micron continues to innovate. In October, the company announced the shipment of its next-generation HBM4 memory samples, boasting industry-leading performance with over 2.8TB/s of bandwidth and pin speeds exceeding 11Gbps. CEO Sanjay Mehrotra highlighted that Micron’s 12-high HBM4 modules offer top performance and efficiency, thanks to innovations like 1-gamma DRAM, an in-house CMOS base die, and advanced packaging.

The key will be whether Micron can translate strong revenue growth into improved margins, addressing investor concerns raised earlier in the year. The company’s aggressive investments in HBM manufacturing and AI education initiatives position it for long-term growth, but near-term profitability remains a critical factor determining the stock’s trajectory post-earnings this week.
