Wizz Air (LON: WIZZ) announced a robust start to 2026, reporting an 8.5% year-on-year increase in passenger numbers for January.
This growth is underpinned by significant network expansion and strategic distribution agreements.
The airline carried 5.35 million passengers in January, up from 4.93 million in the same period last year. Capacity also increased by 10.5% to 6.34 million seats. The load factor, however, experienced a slight dip, settling at 84.4%, a 1.6 percentage point decrease year-over-year.
A key highlight of the month was surpassing the 500 million passenger milestone in just 21 years of operation. Wizz Air is projecting fleet growth from 231 aircraft in F25 to 334 by F30. The company anticipates welcoming its next 500 million travelers within the next five years.
Wizz Air's network expansion reached a new milestone, with the carrier now offering 1,000 routes connecting 200 destinations in over 50 countries. This expansion is a core element of Wizz Air's growth strategy, densifying its presence across Europe and beyond.
Distribution channels were further strengthened through a new agreement with Paxport. This agreement builds upon previous collaborations with Kyte and Travelfusion, expanding Wizz Air's reach to Online Travel Agencies, Travel Management Companies, Travel Agents, and Tour Operators.
