B&M Shares Slide Amid Leadership Shuffle

Shares of B&M European Value Retail plc (BME) are under pressure today following the announcement of several leadership changes, creating uncertainty about the company’s near-term direction.

While the company reaffirmed its FY26 Preliminary Results release date of June 3, 2026, the market seems to be reacting negatively to the departure of the interim CFO, and the broader implications for the “Back to B&M Basics” plan.

Helen Cowing stepped down from her role as Interim Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director, effective immediately. Peter Waterhouse, the current Group Financial Controller, has been appointed as the interim replacement while the company searches for a permanent CFO. Adding to the mix, Peter Pritchard, former Group Chief Executive Officer of Pets at Home, joins the Board as a Non-Executive Director, also effective today. Pritchard brings 40 years of retail industry experience, including roles at Asda and Wilko, and currently serves as Senior Independent Director and Chair of the Remuneration Committee at AO World.

B&M also announced the appointment of Jennifer Lawrence as Group People Director, effective May 5, 2026. Lawrence will lead a new Group HR function encompassing B&M UK, B&M France, and Heron, bringing over 25 years of HR experience from Boots Opticians, Costcutter, and Card Factory.
