Motorpoint Group (LON: MOTR), the UK omnichannel used-vehicle retailer, saw its shares jump on Wednesday morning after raising profit guidance for the year ahead above market expectations, citing stronger trading volumes and margins.
The stock traded at 138p by mid-morning, up 6.15% from Tuesday’s close of 130p, having opened at 135p and touched 143.5p intraday. That leaves the shares still well below their 52-week high of 168.08p, set last September, though above the 109.92p low reached in May.
In a trading update published before markets opened, Motorpoint said it now expects pre-tax profit for the year to March 2027 of £9.8m to £10.8m, above the £9.1m to £10.0m analysts had pencilled in. The retailer, which sells nearly-new cars under six years old through 22 stores, its own website and the wholesale platform Auction4Cars.com, pointed to stronger trading volumes and improved profit per vehicle sold, helped by favourable vehicle supply conditions and its ongoing investment in technology, data and artificial intelligence. It also confirmed a further store will open in spring 2027.

The upgrade builds on a strong FY26, in which pre-tax profit grew 82.9%. The new guidance implies a further 30% to 44% increase in pre-tax profit for FY27, suggesting the recovery in Motorpoint’s earnings is continuing rather than tailing off after last year’s rebound. The shares rallied after the upgraded guidance was published this morning.
Motorpoint said it will provide its next scheduled update, covering the first half of FY27, in early October.
