Bluebird Mining Ventures Posts $19.3m Loss on Korea Write-Down

Bluebird Mining Ventures (LON: BMV), the London-listed micro-cap pivoting from South Korean gold exploration to gold streaming and digital-asset treasury, reported an unaudited interim loss before tax of $19.3 million for the six months to 30 June, up sharply from $2.6 million a year earlier. Shares fell 5.33% to 4.97p in early trade today, having traded between 4.52p and 6p, with the results published before the London open in the same session as the fall — though the move cannot be attributed solely to the announcement.

The headline loss is dominated by a non-cash $17.0 million impairment taken under IFRS 5, the accounting rule requiring a write-down when assets are reclassified as held for sale. That charge relates to Bluebird’s South Korean gold projects, Gubong and Kochang, which the group disposed of on 25 August while retaining a 2.5% net smelter return royalty on each.

Stripped of the impairment, Bluebird remains largely pre-revenue: turnover was just $17,296, against nil a year earlier, generated from its first Bitcoin-linked streaming investment, a Texas mining project that entered production on 22 June. Net assets fell to $2.6 million from $19.6 million at the end of December, with cash of $207,429 and $1.55 million raised via equity fundraisings during the half.

Chief executive Sath Ganesarajah said the period “marked an important stage in BMV’s transition from a legacy exploration and development company to a more focused gold streaming, mining and treasury business.”

The results are unaudited, and with cash reserves thin and revenue negligible, BMV remains a speculative, story-driven stock whose share price will likely hinge on execution of the gold-streaming and Bitcoin-treasury strategy through the second half rather than on current earnings.
