BlackRock Shares Rise Pre-Market as Profit, Revenue and Inflows Beat Forecasts

BlackRock's third-quarter profit, revenue and client inflows all came in above Wall Street forecasts, with assets under management at a record, and the shares were higher in pre-market trading before today's US open.

BlackRock (NYSE: BLK) beat Wall Street forecasts for third-quarter profit, revenue and client inflows, and its shares were up about 4% in pre-market trading at about 11.38am UK time. The asset manager reported before the US open.

The shares closed yesterday at $1,066.12. The pre-market gain is smaller than the roughly 6.6% jump after July results, on the 15th of July. Trading opens in New York at 2.30pm UK time, the same moment US inflation data is due.

Adjusted earnings per share were $15.93, against a consensus of about $14 and 38% higher than a year earlier. It is the fifth consecutive quarter in which BlackRock has beaten the earnings forecast.

Revenue rose 19% to $7.75bn, against about $7.4bn expected. Performance fees, which BlackRock earns on some funds, came in at $630m against $431m forecast.

Client inflows, the net new money investors placed with the firm, were $205.5bn against $171.5bn expected. Bonds took $78.2bn, equities $52.4bn and private markets, which cover investments outside public stock and bond exchanges, $15.3bn.

Assets under management rose 15% to a record $15.49tn. That was slightly below the $15.57tn analysts expected, the one measure that did not exceed forecasts.

Results are a read on how much money investors are still putting into markets. A pre-market move may not hold once New York opens, and US consumer price data at 2.30pm UK time could move the shares either way.
