Citi Downgrades RELX to Neutral on Valuation

Citi cut RELX to Neutral from Buy on valuation but raised its price target, leaving limited upside to the new target, with a reported trading update due on Thursday.

Citi downgraded RELX (LON: REL), the information analytics and decision-tools group, to Neutral from Buy on Tuesday. Citi also lifted its price target to 3,125p from 2,870p, citing valuation after the recent re-rating.

The shares closed today at 2,928p, down 9p or 0.31% from yesterday’s 2,937p, the highest close in the data from 15 July. They dipped to 2,883p during the session.

Citi’s stated reason is valuation after the recent re-rating.

The new target is 255p, or 8.9%, above the old one, so Citi has raised its price expectation even as it cut the rating.

The old 2,870p target sat 2.0% below today’s close. The new 3,125p target is only 6.7% above it.

That follows a run of about 20% from 2,450p on the 22nd of September, including a 4.0% jump on the 15th of October on heavy volume.
