Skydance Stock Surges 10.9% on Wednesday

Skydance shares rose almost 11% on Wednesday, recovering part of last week's slump after a warrant distribution. No company news explains the jump, and the possible causes remain unconfirmed.

Skydance Corporation (NYSE: SKYD) shares jumped about 10.9% on Wednesday, but the reason for the move has not been confirmed. The media group owns the Paramount and Warner Bros. studios, CBS and CNN after completing its takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery.

The stock closed at $7.87, against $7.10 on Tuesday, after trading between $6.90 and $7.91. About 49.3 million shares changed hands, about 1.45 times the 20-day average by our calculation, while the communication-services sector fund was down 0.7% in the afternoon.

24/7 Wall St writer David Moadel framed the rise as a rebound, saying the move “wins back some of the ground lost once Skydance stock and its warrants separated”. That is one outlet’s explanation, not a confirmed catalyst.

Separately, John Malone predicted on Wednesday that SpaceX would invest $8bn to $10bn in Skydance to help cut its debt. It is a prediction, not a deal, and no source links it to the share price move.

The earlier fall is better documented. Skydance distributed about 470.7 million warrants, which are rights to buy a share at a set price. Each carries a $12 exercise price and expires in October 2036. The stock closed at $9.27 on 13 October and $7.06 on 14 October, then touched a low close of $6.80 on 19 October.

Wells Fargo analysts described the distribution as the “final step” in closing the Warner Bros. Discovery deal.

The next hard catalyst is the third-quarter report on 9 November, the first as the combined company.
