HSBC Holdings PLC (LON: HSBA) has announced the appointment of Wei Sun Christianson as an Independent non-executive Director, effective January 1, 2026.

Christianson, aged 69, will also serve on the Group Risk Committee and the Nomination and Corporate Governance Committee.

Her extensive 30-year international banking and regulatory career, most recently as Senior Advisor at Morgan Stanley, is viewed as a significant asset.

Prior to her advisory role, Christianson was Co-CEO, Asia Pacific, and CEO, Morgan Stanley China from 2006 to 2022. Her experience includes senior regulatory roles at the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission, where she helped shape regulations enabling Chinese companies to list outside of China.

The HSBC Board has affirmed Christianson's independence, stating that no relationships or circumstances are likely to affect her judgment. Any potential relationships are not considered material.

HSBC's Group Chair, Brendan Nelson, emphasized Christianson's deep banking knowledge and experience in strategically important markets like Hong Kong and Mainland China. He anticipates her experience will be a valuable asset to the Board.
