Why Vicor Stock Just Popped 10% Postmarket

Vicor shares rose 10.1% in postmarket trading after the company lifted its third-quarter sequential growth guidance, citing higher royalties from its first non-exclusive license to Vertical Power Delivery.

Vicor (NASDAQ: VICR) shares are up 10.1% postmarket Wednesda, after the company raised its third-quarter sequential growth guidance. The company announced the change in a press release through GlobeNewswire at 9pm UK time (4:00pm Eastern).

The reaction is an after-hours one, so it is not a settled price and can change by the next session.

The announcement itself is short. Vicor said it raised its third-quarter sequential growth guidance, meaning growth measured against the second quarter, from more than 20% to more than 30%.

The company attributed the change to increased royalties from the previously announced first non-exclusive license to Vertical Power Delivery, or VPD. A royalty is a payment a company receives for allowing another party to use its technology.

According to Vicor, the higher guidance comes from royalties under a license it had already announced, and the raised threshold is the company’s own updated expectation for the quarter.

The release does not say how large the royalties are, who the licensee is, or what the guidance means in dollar terms. The size of the upgrade is visible only as a change in the growth threshold.

For now, the postmarket reaction rests on the company’s own statement, and the next regular trading session will show where the shares settle.
