Filtronic Shares Gain as Order Book Gives Revenue Cover, but GEO Contract Is Only $0.3m

Filtronic says its order book gives "significant revenue cover" for this financial year and expects to deliver in line with market expectations, but its new satellite contract is worth only $0.3m.

Filtronic (AIM: FTC) shares are up around 2% on Friday morning after the company said today its order book gives “significant revenue cover” for the current financial year. It also announced a first GEO Ka-band contract with a US satellite manufacturer.

Filtronic closed at 225p yesterday, up 4.65% from 215p on Wednesday. The stock climbed from 237.5p on 30 September to 330p on 7 October, then faded, and yesterday’s close sits below its 50-day average of 250.29p. Market value was £504.6m at that close.

The contract is Filtronic’s first with a US manufacturer of satellites in geostationary orbit (GEO), working in the Ka-band, a satellite communications frequency range. It is a development-phase award worth $0.3m, with the company saying it expects “further orders leading to production volumes”. It gave no value for those.

Separately, Filtronic said it has completed development of its first 200W solid-state power amplifier (SSPA) system for medium and geostationary orbit constellations, with ten times the power of its Cerus 32 gallium arsenide product.

The heavier weight sits elsewhere: a $68.1m (£51.3m) SpaceX order at the beginning of October, the company’s largest ever, for Cerus E-band gallium nitride SSPA units. Two further US prototype contracts total $16.0m (£11.1m), and three defence radar contracts add £2.1m.

Line chart of Filtronic daily share price in pence from April to October 2026
Filtronic shares spiked in early October, around the time of the SpaceX order, before easing back through the month. Daily close, pence, 28 April to 29 October 2026.

On guidance, Filtronic’s statement said:

The contracted order book gives significant revenue cover for the current financial year, as well as increased visibility for outer years. This provides the Board with confidence in delivering in line with market expectations.

Filtronic announcement

That is reassurance rather than an upgrade. The update gives no revenue, profit or order-book figure.

Shares therefore remain tied to delivery of the SpaceX order and to whether the GEO award turns into production business. The stock is volatile, having traded between 195p and 480p intraday over six months.
