IREN Rebounds 9.6% After Hours as Revenue Beats Estimates

IREN shares fell 17% in the regular session, then rose 9.6% after the bell as quarterly revenue beat the analyst average and AI Cloud sales nearly tripled, despite a delayed ARR target.

IREN shares rebounded 9.6% to $19.69 in post-market trading on Thursday after the company reported quarterly results. They had closed down 17% at $18.03 in the regular session amid reports of fears at Microsoft regarding delays and execution risks among its neocloud partners.

Revenue for the quarter to the 30th of September was $228m, up 66% from $137m and about 3% above the $221.71m average estimate of 13 analysts. AI Cloud revenue rose 182% to $200m from $71m, while bitcoin mining fell to $28m from $67m. The net loss was $263m, against $684m before.

The main new negative in the release was the ARR target. IREN moved its more-than-$4bn target from the end of 2026 to January 2027, and said it may extend to the end of February. ARR is an operating metric, not a GAAP (standard accounting) measure, and recognised revenue may be materially lower. Roberts put it this way:

The more than $4 billion of contracted ARR is funded and now targeted for January, after a customer-requested design change and supplier timing moved it from year-end; it may extend to the end of February.

Costs and leverage rose. SG&A (selling, general and administrative expenses) was $217m, up from $128m. Net debt reached $4.43bn from $216m, while cash and equivalents, excluding restricted cash, fell to $3.52bn from $5.90bn.

Demand indicators were firmer. Backlog rose 22% to $20.3bn, about two-thirds of it investment-grade. After the quarter end, IREN signed a five-year contract at about $22m per megawatt of IT capacity, with 90% of GPU capital spending prepaid, and a short-term contract at $40m per megawatt.

Funding for the build-out is only partly secured. Of $15bn of planned capital spending remaining in FY27, $9bn is covered by cash, committed GPU financing and prepayments, while $6bn depends on market conditions.

January, with a possible extension to the end of February, is now the next checkpoint for the ARR target.
