Metlen Invests €25 Million to Expand Recycled Aluminium Capacity

Metlen Energy & Metals is putting almost €25 million into its Greek recycling plant, tightening the operational link between its recycled and primary aluminium businesses.

Metlen Energy & Metals (LON: MTLN), the FTSE 100 industrial and energy group, said today it is investing nearly €25 million in EP.AL.ME, its recycled aluminium unit. The money funds new automated sorting, processing and melting equipment, part of what the company calls its Integrated Aluminium Value Chain.

Metlen shares traded at €47.68 on the London Stock Exchange this morning, up 0.168% from yesterday’s close of €47.60, within an intraday range of €47.32 to €47.94.

EP.AL.ME, Greece’s largest independent recycled aluminium producer, will use the upgrade to process more complex scrap it previously struggled to handle. That deepens the link with Aluminium of Greece, its primary smelter, with the two increasingly run as one integrated system.

Recycling aluminium uses roughly 5% of the energy needed to produce the primary metal, underpinning the economic case.

Metlen framed the project as aligned with the EU’s Critical Raw Materials Act and Clean Industrial Deal, both aimed at securing domestic supply of strategic metals. Once developed, combined output at the two plants is expected to exceed 250,000 tonnes, alongside improved margins.

The announcement is a routine strategic capital commitment rather than a market-moving event, consistent with the muted share reaction.
