Sandisk Beats Forecasts and Lifts Guidance

Sandisk beat Yahoo Finance consensus on revenue and adjusted earnings and guided next quarter above forecasts. Its shares had already fallen 5.3% before the results and were about 0.5% lower after the close.

Sandisk (NASDAQ: SNDK) beat Yahoo Finance consensus on revenue and non-GAAP earnings per share for the quarter to the 2nd of October. Revenue of $11.031bn compared with $10.70bn expected, 3.1% ahead. Non-GAAP EPS, which excludes certain items, was $49.51 against $46.41, 6.7% ahead.

The results came after the US close, so they do not explain the day’s trading. Sandisk shares fell 5.3% to $1,330.05 in the regular session today, before the release, and were about 0.5% lower after hours.

Guidance also beat. Sandisk expects revenue of $12.2bn to $12.6bn next quarter, a $12.4bn midpoint against Yahoo Finance consensus of $12.29bn, and non-GAAP EPS of $55.00 to $57.00, midpoint $56.00 against $53.35. It guided non-GAAP gross margin of 84.5% to 85.5%.

Reported GAAP figures are higher still, with net income of $8.101bn and EPS of $52.60, but that includes a $513m gain on equity securities. Sandisk also said it returned $5.0bn to shareholders in the quarter by repurchasing about 3.2m shares. The results are unaudited.

The per-share figures are before an 8-for-1 stock split. Holders on the record date, the 9th of November, receive the new shares after the close on the 19th of November, and split-adjusted trading starts at the open on the 20th of November. At today’s close, $1,330.05 would become about $166.26 a share, which changes the price per share but not the value of a holding.
