SoFi Surges as Lending Boom Lifts 2027 Outlook

Record personal and student loan originations lifted lending revenue 68%, and a first 2027 outlook landed well above analyst forecasts, giving a heavily sold-off stock a sharp reprieve.

SoFi Technologies (SOFI), the US digital financial services company, jumped 13.38% on Tuesday after third-quarter lending revenue rose 68% and management guided 2027 well above analyst forecasts. The results came before the US open.

The shares closed at $16.40 on Nasdaq today, up 13.38%. They were down nearly 45% for 2026 as of Monday’s close, so the stock remains well below where it started the year.

Lending adjusted net revenue, which excludes some non-cash valuation changes, rose 68% to $807.4m from $481.4m a year earlier. SoFi said originations, the dollar value of new loans made, reached a record $16.9bn, up 71%.

Personal loans made up $12.6bn of that, up 69%, while student loans hit $2.9bn, up 96% and the company’s highest quarter. Loan origination fees rose to $270.9m from $105.0m. The personal loan annualised charge-off rate, the share of loans written off as lost, fell 34 basis points to 2.26%, which the company said was in line with expectations.

Across the group, adjusted net revenue rose 44% to $1.371bn and GAAP net income rose 73% to $241.0m. The outlook did the rest: SoFi guided 2026 adjusted net revenue to about $5.04bn, and 2027 to about $6.4bn with earnings of 90 cents a share. FactSet consensus was about $6bn and 82 cents.

Last quarter SoFi raised only its adjusted net revenue guidance and disappointed investors, whereas this time it raised forecasts across the board.

We had exceptional Q3 results against the backdrop of any environment, but they are even more remarkable given how 2026 has unfolded.

Before the results, StoneX analyst Mark Palmer wrote that “operational performance and stock price have decoupled”, according to MarketWatch. His $25 price target implies 73% upside from Monday’s close.

That note predates the results, and the 2027 targets now set the bar the company has to meet.
