TJX Companies’ stock (NYSE: TJX) held up well through yesterday’s market downturn, with gains of 1.17% coming as the Nasdaq (-1.46%), S&P 500 (-0.59%), and the Russell 2000 (-0.78%) pulled back.

Looking to previous reports for clues, there is an emerging picture of a resilient retailer, faring better than most during uncertain conditions. In the first quarter of fiscal 2026, which ended on May 3, 2025, TJX announced net sales of $13.11 billion, exceeding expectations of $13.01 billion.

While EPS of $0.92 was slightly down from the previous year’s $0.93, it still surpassed the consensus estimate of $0.90. Comparable store sales increased by 3%, driven by higher customer transactions.

Looking back further, the fourth quarter of fiscal 2025 (ending February 1, 2025) saw net sales of $16.35 billion, matching the previous year and exceeding estimates of $16.19 billion. Comparable store sales rose by an impressive 5%, with growth across all divisions.

EPS increased by 10% year-over-year to $1.23, beating estimates of $1.16. The company also announced a 13% increase in its quarterly dividend and authorized a new $2.5 billion stock repurchase program, signaling confidence in its financial position.

Any indication of slowing growth or margin pressure could trigger a pull back, while a strong report and optimistic outlook could propel the stock above $135 and into uncharted territory. The retail landscape is constantly evolving, and TJX’s ability to adapt and maintain its competitive edge will ultimately determine its long-term success.
