UBS Downgrades Aviva to Neutral on Valuation

UBS has cut insurer Aviva to Neutral from Buy on valuation while raising its price target, after the shares had climbed to their highest close in a year. They fell on Friday.

UBS analyst Nasib Ahmed downgraded Aviva (LSE: AV.) to Neutral from Buy on Friday, citing valuation. The investment bank lifted its price target on the FTSE 100 insurer to 800p from 780p.

The shares closed Friday at 733.8p, down 2.5% from 752.6p on Thursday. That Thursday close was their highest in a year. The fall came on the day of the downgrade, but the time the note was published is not known, so the move cannot be pinned on it.

A valuation downgrade follows a run in the price. Aviva was up 6.6% over the month to Friday’s close and 7.2% so far this year, excluding dividends. From a three-month low close of 672.4p on the 1st of October, the shares had climbed 11.9% to Thursday’s close.

Aviva shares climb steadily over three months to a one-year closing high on 5 November 2026, then fall on 6 November after UBS downgraded the stock to Neutral, finishing below its 800p UBS target line.
Aviva daily closing price, three months to Friday’s close, with UBS’s 800p target.

At 800p, UBS’s new target sits 9.0% above Friday’s close, compared with 6.3% for the old 780p figure. The bank sees more room to its target than before, yet no longer rates the shares a Buy.

Friday’s close was also 3.65% below Thursday’s 52-week intraday high of 761.6p, and above the 50-day moving average of 709.95p.
