Boston Scientific Shares Slide After Cyberattack Forces 2026 Guidance Cut

Boston Scientific (NYSE: BSX), the medical device maker, said on Tuesday it no longer expects to meet its 2026 sales and profit guidance after a cyberattack disrupted operations worldwide.

BSX shares were down 2.1% in premarket trading, according to Reuters, building on a longer decline that has seen the stock more than halve from its 52-week high of $108.07. The shares closed at $47.80 on Friday, near their 52-week low of $42.20.

Boston Scientific said it first identified unauthorised activity on some of its IT systems on 25 August, which caused a global network outage that cut off access to operating systems and business applications. The outage disrupted manufacturing and the processing and shipment of customer orders across the company’s global operations, the company said.

As a result, Boston Scientific said it is unlikely to hit the Q3 and full-year 2026 sales and adjusted-profit guidance it issued on 29 July, which had called for full-year adjusted earnings per share of $3.28 to $3.32 and reported net sales growth of 5.5% to 6.5%. The company said it has made progress restoring systems, with major distribution centres now processing and shipping at or above normal levels and manufacturing resumed across most facilities globally, and it expects to recover a portion of the lost revenue as operations ramp back up.

The incident adds Boston Scientific to a run of cyberattacks that have hit healthcare companies this year. The company has not yet quantified the financial hit and said it will give an updated outlook when it reports Q3 earnings on 28 October.
