D-Wave Quantum's stock (NYSE: QBTS) is once again one to watch in the pre-market, with the price having gained 20%, indicating a new all time high can expected upon the open. This morning's catalyst is the general availability launch of the Advantage2 Quantum Computer.

The system’s enhanced qubit connectivity and hybrid solvers, capable of handling up to 2 million variables, have already solved over 20.6 million customer problems via D-Wave’s Leap cloud platform. These real-world applications span industries from pharmaceuticals (with Japan Tobacco) to automotive and telecommunications, reinforcing D-Wave’s positioning as a practical solutions provider in a sector often criticized for its theoretical orientation.

This news comes hot on the heels of a recent Q1 2025 earnings report, with revenue soaring 508% year-over-year to $15 million, driven by the first sale of the Advantage quantum system, while net losses narrowed dramatically by 69% to $5.42 million. Gross margins reached an impressive 93.6%, and the company’s cash reserves swelled to a record $300 million.

The company’s strategic partnerships with institutions like Germany’s Jülich Supercomputing Centre, Davidson Technologies, and the Cleveland Clinic exemplify its growing commercial traction. CEO Dr. Alan Baratz has been vocal in defending D-Wave’s annealing approach, directly countering industry skepticism and emphasizing the firm’s readiness for real-world deployment, not just academic experimentation.

Analyst consensus rating remains firmly positive, with a “Strong Buy” rating, with recent upgrades coming from Benchmark ($14 from $8), B.Riley ($13 from $12), and Roth Capital ($12 from $10) on the back of earnings. Whilst price targets are moving to the upside, such has been the pace of acceleration in the stock price that QBTS has since outpaced even the most aggressive on the street.

While quantum computing is forecast to add $1 trillion to the global economy by 2035, D-Wave’s future will hinge on its ability to convert technological leadership into scalable, recurring commercial success. With the stock having gained 900% leading into today's session, the bulls are firmly in charge, although volatility in both directions has come to be expected. Careful risk management would be advisable.
