Sunrise Resources Shares Extend Rally on Nevada Zinc Results

Sunrise Resources (LON: SRES), an AIM-listed mineral explorer with its Reese Ridge project in Nevada, has seen its shares climb for a third straight session after reporting high-grade zinc, lead and silver surface results at the project.

The stock traded at 0.0217p today, up 11.28% from Friday’s close of 0.0195p, having risen as much as 28% intraday on 6 August to 0.018p when the results first landed. The shares remain well below their 52-week high of 0.044p, having traded as low as 0.012p over the past year.

The catalyst was a 6 August update on assay results from the Ridge Top prospect at Reese Ridge. Narrow vein samples graded up to 9.9% zinc, more than 20% lead and 192g/t silver. The mineralisation was not confined to those narrow veins: a hanging-wall chip sample, rock sitting above the vein, returned 4.8% zinc, while a footwall sample, rock below the vein, graded 5.8% zinc, 1% lead and 17g/t silver, extending the zone of interest into the surrounding rock.

The surface results sit above a low-resistivity anomaly, an underground zone with unusual electrical properties often linked to metal-bearing minerals, identified by historical airborne geophysics and extending to almost 1,000 metres depth. That combination of high-grade surface grades and a large, deep electrical target is consistent with a carbonate replacement deposit, an ore body formed when hot metal-bearing fluids replace limestone near an intrusion, of potentially significant scale. Executive chairman Patrick Cheetham compared the target’s potential to South32’s Taylor deposit in Arizona, which holds 138 million tonnes at 8.61% zinc-equivalent, and to i-80 Gold’s Ruby Hill discoveries in Nevada.

Whether that comparison holds depends on drilling that has not yet happened. The next phase of ground geophysics and drilling at Reese Ridge is explicitly subject to Sunrise securing funding, leaving the company, which is loss-making with a market capitalisation of roughly £1.83 million, reliant on fresh capital to test the target at depth.

The rally has proved persistent rather than a one-day spike: shares closed up 18% on Friday at 0.0195p before extending gains again today. For a micro-cap explorer with no resource estimate or production, the move reflects speculative buying on exploration potential rather than any change to underlying value. The funding outcome remains the key risk to whether the story has further to run.
