Shares of Barratt Redrow (LON: BTRW) experienced a decline of approximately 1.8% following the announcement of its Group Chief Executive succession plan.
The company revealed that Dean Banks would be appointed as the next Group Chief Executive, succeeding David Thomas, who is retiring after 11 years in the role and 17 years with the Group. The changeover is slated to occur in the final quarter of 2026.
The appointment of Dean Banks follows what the company described as a rigorous selection process supported by external advisors. The Board expressed confidence in Banks' ability to lead Barratt Redrow through its next phase of growth and execute its strategy. Banks joins from Ventia Pty Limited, where he served as Group Chief Executive since 2021, leading the company through its listing and establishing it as a key infrastructure services provider in Australia and New Zealand.
David Thomas will remain in his current role until Banks joins in late 2026 and will then stay with the Group until March 2027 to facilitate a smooth transition. This extended handover period signals an intention to minimize disruption and ensure continuity in the company's strategic direction.
Caroline Silver, Group Chair, emphasized Dean Banks' experience and track record: “The Board is delighted to appoint Dean Banks as Chief Executive of Barratt Redrow. He brings strong experience as a public company Chief Executive, with deep knowledge of the construction and infrastructure sectors and a proven track record of value creation.” She further thanked David Thomas for his leadership and dedication to Barratt Redrow, highlighting his contribution to building an industry-leading business.
David Thomas stated, “It has been a privilege to serve as Chief Executive of Barratt Redrow, and I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved over the last eleven years.” He highlighted the company's strong, disciplined, and customer-focused approach, emphasizing the value delivered to shareholders.
Dean Banks stated, “I am proud and privileged to be joining Barratt Redrow as Chief Executive. Barratt Redrow is an exceptional UK homebuilder, leading the industry in quality, service and sustainability, with a strong platform for the future underpinned by a clear strategy and outstanding people.”
