British Land Shares Rise as Joanne McNamara Named New Chief Executive

Shares in British Land (LON: BLND) climbed 1.9% on Tuesday to 402.6p after the FTSE 100 property giant announced the appointment of Joanne McNamara as its new Chief Executive Officer, signalling investor confidence in the incoming leader.

McNamara joins from Oxford Properties, where she serves as Executive Vice President, Europe. Oxford, which is wholly owned by Canadian pension fund OMERS, is one of the world’s most prominent real estate investors, and already has an established relationship with British Land — the two companies are joint venture partners on the iconic Leadenhall Building development in the City of London.

With more than twenty years of experience in real estate, McNamara joined Oxford in 2010 as one of its first London-based employees and has since overseen major investment and development transactions across Europe. She built Oxford’s European team to over 70 professionals, managing a portfolio of office, retail, logistics and residential assets with assets under management of approximately £8 billion. Prior to Oxford, she held roles at Hammerson and DTZ.

Chairman William Rucker praised the appointment, calling McNamara “one of Europe’s most respected real estate professionals” and highlighting her “deep expertise, valuable experience in private capital and a strong reputation for decisive leadership.”

McNamara, who sits on Oxford’s Global Executive and Investment Committees, is expected to join British Land by the end of November at the latest.

The appointment comes as British Land enjoys strong operational momentum. The company recently reported a 5% rise in underlying profit to £294 million for the year to March 2026, with campus occupancy climbing to 95% and retail park occupancy at 99%. The company has guided for at least 6% EPS growth in FY2027.

Barclays recently upgraded the stock to “overweight” with a 465p price target, implying around 20% upside from recent levels. The Wall Street consensus target price stands at 455.6p.
