FTSE 100 Earnings This Week: BP, HSBC, Diageo & Next Results to Watch

London’s boardrooms open their books this week in what is another busy FTSE earnings run, with a trillion pounds of combined market value reporting between Monday and Thursday.

BP kicks off Tuesday’s avalanche at 6am, with underlying profit expected near $9bn — up 71% year-on-year — though write-offs and green-asset impairments will complicate the headline number. The oil major’s North Sea sale, announced just days ago, adds extra intrigue.

HSBC reports the same day, its half-year update watched closely for signs of Asian loan growth and capital return plans.

Legal & General updates Wednesday on its £1.2bn buyback and booming pension-transfer business, while retailer Next delivers a Q2 statement expected to show continued double-digit online growth despite Middle East-linked cost pressures.

Glencore also reports Wednesday, with commodity traders watching copper and coal exposure amid volatile prices.

Thursday brings Diageo’s full-year results — arguably the week’s most scrutinised report. The Guinness and Baileys owner faces a new CEO’s turnaround plan, soft North American demand, and debt levels well above FTSE 100 averages.

Elsewhere Thursday, Persimmon, WPP, Admiral Group and Serco post half-year numbers.

With US payrolls landing Friday, this week’s corporate results will collide directly with macro data — a combination that could set the tone for UK equities well into autumn.
