The stock climbed as much as 2.9% intraday, touching a high of 260p, before settling around 255.2p, up from the previous close of 248p.

The move extended a recovery from earlier in the month, when shares had drifted to a low of 240p on 10 and 11 September, having traded above 250p at the start of September.

Kier’s results for the year ended 30 June 2026 showed revenue up 7.5% to £4.39bn, with adjusted operating profit rising 6.7% to £169.8m and margins held at 3.9%. Operating free cash flow reached £206m, representing 121% cash conversion, well above the group’s 90% medium-term target.

Kier also reported an average net cash position of £10.7m for the year, its first such milestone in over a decade, compared with average net debt of £49.2m in FY25. Year-end net cash rose 13.9% to £232m.

The board proposed an 8% increase in the full-year dividend to 7.8p and confirmed its £25m share buyback, launched in March, was over 30% complete.

Investors appeared encouraged by management’s guidance that FY27 earnings would land at the top end of prior expectations, supported by a record £11.9bn order book, up 8% year-on-year, and framework positions of around £200bn. Kier also unveiled updated medium-term targets, including double-digit adjusted EPS growth and average net cash above £200m by FY29.
