Amazon Reportedly in Talks Over $7bn Decart Deal to Boost Trainium Push
The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday that Amazon is in talks to buy AI startup Decart for around $7bn, a deal that would add chip-switching software to its push to rival Nvidia with its own Trainium chips.
Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN), the e-commerce and cloud computing group, is reportedly in talks to buy artificial intelligence startup Decart for around $7bn, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday evening, after Friday’s close. Amazon declined to comment, saying it does not comment on speculation.
Amazon shares closed on Friday at $262.43, up 3.29% from $254.06 the session before, after trading between $256.00 and $262.80. The close was 7.6% below the three-month closing high of $284.02 on the 3rd of August. That session pre-dates the report.
The Journal, citing unnamed sources, said the talks could produce an agreement soon, could fall apart, or could be overtaken by another bidder. Nothing has been announced by either company.

Decart, based in San Francisco and founded in 2023 by Dean and Orian Leitersdorf and Moshe Shalev, makes software that lets developers move AI models between different chips. It also builds real-time video and “world” models. Amazon Web Services, Amazon’s cloud arm, gave it early access to Trainium3 in 2025.
That link fits Amazon’s push to make Trainium, its own AI chip, a credible alternative to Nvidia’s. The reported $7bn is about 75% above Decart’s valuation of nearly $4bn in May, according to the Journal citing PitchBook, when it raised $300m in a round led by Radical Ventures with Nvidia investing. Anthropic decided against a roughly $6bn deal in September.
