Apple Tells EU Regulators of Deal for AI Podcast Startup Huxe’s Team

Apple has told EU regulators it will make employment offers to staff at AI podcast startup Huxe and take a licence to its technology, in a filing that was reported on Friday.

Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL), the iPhone maker, has told the European Commission it will make employment offers to certain employees of AI podcast startup Huxe and take a licence to its intellectual property. The filing was dated the 9th of June and was reported on Friday, when Apple shares fell 1.11%.

Apple closed Friday at $336.64, down from $340.42 on Thursday and about 1.3% below its closing high of $341.07 on the 25th of September. The drop appeared to coincide with a separate, unverified report of cuts to iPhone 18 Pro orders, not with the Huxe news.

According to the European Commission filing, as reported by TechCrunch, Apple will make the offers and receive a non-exclusive licence to Huxe’s intellectual property. Non-exclusive means Apple may use the technology but others can too.

Huxe was founded by former Google NotebookLM team members Raiza Martin, Jason Spielman and Stephen Hughes. The startup said on the 21st of May that it was closing, and its audio service ended on the 28th of May.

The Huxe team put it this way in its shutdown statement:

The team is moving on to new things, and we won’t be continuing development of the product.

Line chart of Apple's daily closing share price from 8 July to 9 October 2026, ending at 336.64 dollars
Apple’s daily close over three months to Friday; the 9th of June notification falls before the chart starts.

The reported details are thin. There is no price, no headcount, no named hires and no detail on the scope of the licence.

The filing’s wording comes second-hand, and the document itself has not been seen. For shareholders the next hard catalyst is Apple’s earnings on the 2nd of November, after the US close, where the analyst estimate for earnings per share is $1.98.
