GENinCode Shares Surge After Independent Trial Backs Genetic Test

Shares in GENinCode (LON: GENI), the Manchester-based predictive genetics company, surged as much as 18% in early trade today after independent pilot data on its cardiovascular test won backing at a major European cardiology conference.

The stock opened up from Thursday’s close of 0.95p and touched an intraday high of 1.25p, a gain of 31.6% versus the prior close, before easing back.

The trigger was an announcement published at 7am today revealing that Catalonia’s public health authority, the Institut Català de la Salut (ICS), presented real-world pilot results at the European Society of Cardiology’s 2026 congress in Munich. The pilot, run independently of GENinCode, tested the company’s CARDIO inCode-Score, a genetic test that adds a polygenic risk score to standard cardiovascular risk assessment in primary care. It covered 584 patients across 14 primary care centres in Catalonia over 18 months, all previously classed as moderate cardiovascular risk.

Adding the genetic test changed the overall cardiovascular risk classification for 42.6% of moderate-risk patients, with 26.5% moved into a different risk category outright. Average cardiovascular risk fell from 7.30% to 6.04%, LDL cholesterol dropped from 136.74 mg/dL to 123.17 mg/dL, and smoking abstinence rose from 43.7% to 62.8%, over a mean follow-up of 8.5 months. Dr Elisabet Descals, Primary Care Director at ICS, said the results “provide further real-world clinical evidence for the inclusion of polygenic risk scores (PRS) in conjunction with clinical risk for improved risk assessment of CAD in primary care moderate-risk patients,” adding that incorporating polygenic risk had improved stratification with “a significant reduction in estimated CV risk and improved control of risk factors.”

Polygenic risk scores are not yet part of routine European clinical guidelines, meaning the pilot marks a scientific validation step rather than an immediate shift in the test’s commercial or regulatory path.
