Six Flags shares plunge after hours following fatal Goliath coaster incident

Six Flags shares fell more than 10% after the US close on Monday, according to CNBC, wiping out the day's gain, after police said one person died on the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia.

Six Flags Entertainment (NYSE: FUN), the theme park operator, saw its shares reportedly fall more than 10% after the US close on Monday. The drop followed police saying that one person died on the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia.

In Monday’s regular session, FUN closed up 4.43% at $11.915, against a previous close of $11.41. The after-hours drop more than wiped out that gain. US markets are closed for now, so today’s US open is the first chance to trade the reaction.

Cobb County police said one person died and several others were injured on Goliath shortly before 4pm local time on Monday. Local television put the number hurt at four. Witnesses described a man falling from the ride, and the cause has not been established.

The company said it is cooperating and has temporarily closed similar attractions across its parks.

The shares were already under pressure. They are down about 22% this year from a 31 December close of $15.34. They closed at a 2026 low of $10.71 on the 30th of September, and their 52-week intraday low is $10.45.

Investors had already marked the stock down after second-quarter results on the 6th of August, when it fell about 16% as earnings per share of $0.14 came in well below the $0.29 estimate.

Nothing yet quantifies what the ride closures or any liability might cost, so whether the company updates the market is an open question.

The next scheduled marker is third-quarter results, expected around the 5th of November, though the company has not confirmed the date. Before then, the US open today and any company statement are the things to watch.
